The emergence of the miniature railway

The 80 builders and 2 female builders

In honor of the energetic and dedicated efforts of 80 male students and 2 female students who, during the three-week spring break in 1960, built the miniature railway on the Gurten under the motto “Youth builds its own empire” under the expert guidance of the SVB (Städtische Verkehrsbetriebe Bern, now Bernmobil) construction service and the city gardening department.

This construction crew formed the basis for the Chutzenrat, which was founded in 1961 and still exists today. Special mention must be made of Mr. Werner Jöhr (former director of the Gurten funicular and the SVB), who was a dedicated mentor to the Chutzenrat at the time.
