Celebrate Switzerland's birthday
Celebrate Switzerland's birthday
The Gurten celebrates Swiss National Day with a program featuring culinary delights, music, and traditional festivities. Instead of a fleeting fireworks display, we’re focusing on a sustainable and quiet experience to enjoy with family and friends.
National Day is the perfect opportunity to spend the day with your loved ones on Bern’s local mountain. The day begins traditionally with the August 1 Brunch: for families at Huusbüffe, for foodies at Gurtners, and for those who appreciate tradition at Schüür. In the afternoon and evening, Swiss classics like raclette and cervelat at the Bahnhöfli outdoor stand invite you to a convivial get-together.
The Frohsinn band plays traditional Swiss instruments—in front of the Bahnhöfli or inside the Kulm building, depending on the weather.
At the Gurtengärtli, children can make colorful, flowery crafts.
On the meadow to the left below the Ostsignal, Highland Gurten will light a bonfire starting at 6 p.m. and operate a food stand serving sausages and beer.
The park invites you to relax, play board games, have a picnic, or take a fireworks-free walk with your four-legged friend.
Out of respect for the wildlife protection zone on the slopes of the Gurten, the entire Gurten is completely fireworks-free. Please note that fireworks of any kind are prohibited. Inspections will be conducted. Please respect the Gurten as a sanctuary for Bern’s wildlife. Thank you for your understanding.
