Open Observatory Day: Solar Observation

free observation

Observing the sun through a telescope

The observatory is open to the public free of charge on five different dates in the year. You can visit the observatory from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on two Sundays in the summer to observe the sun. In the winter, you can survey the stars through the telescope from 7.30 p.m. until 22.30 p.m. on three Saturday evenings. These public viewing sessions are funded by the Migros Culture Percentage.

Will you discover the sunspots? On Sunday, September 24, you can observe the sun through a telescope in the afternoon from the Gurten. The AstroEvents team will explain exciting facts about our solar system and the sun, the star around which the earth orbits.
The event will take place only in good weather. The sunspots will not be visible in cloudy skies.

Warning: Please do not try to observe the sun without suitable protective glasses. This can result in severe eye damage!
